DENTAL ASSISTANT
  • Description:
A dental assistant assists the dentist in providing care directly to the patient. There are three categories of dental assistants: (a) Traditional Dental Assistants, (b) Certified Dental Assistants, and (c) Expanded Function Dental Assistants. A traditional dental assistant may assist the dentist or clinical staff as assigned by the dentist and may take radiographs under a special endorsement. Certified dental assistants have obtained radiology privileges and completed the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) examination. Expanded function dental assistants are certified dental assistants or licensed dental hygienists who have completed a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association in expanded function duties.
